WHO AM I ?
Defining a space is ultimately down to the emotions felt during the experience. as an aspiring interior designer, it is down to us to accommodate those feelings, enhancing or twisting what may seem like the norm. whether this be through changing the materials of a building, the colour which is associated with the building, or the lighting. All together these elements add to what a person may feel. To me, this is why interior design is something special, we have the opportunity to take everyday spaces away from being repetitive in life. The diversity of space is endless.
Studying interior design has giving me a greater insight to what it means to have a thought-provoking space. Developing skills though practice, I have loved every project from my first to my final. Focusing on lighting and installation design withing my first year, I experienced what it is like the have a space transform only using minimal modifications. During my second year I experienced what it was like to work in a team from different backgrounds, working along side product design to created furnitecture a mix of furniture and architecture. This was definitely one of the most challenging projects but also the out comes was amazing to see. Learning how to be openminded while striving for the best idea, was possibly once of the best experiences during my second year. finally in my third year I focused on the history behind a building and the story which could be told from both the old and new was a big learning curve. As humans we tend to think new is best, forgetting about the past. Adaptive reuse in interior design is an innovative way of thinking where the main objective is to tell a story of the past while allowing for new life to merge as one. we focused a lot on sustainable design, incorporating aspects in as much as we could as sustainability is the future of design.
During my years studying, I gained valuable knowledge in both meaning and the skills needed to create these spaces. Technical skills in drawing and understanding programs including Vectorworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Sketchup helped gain experience for future work. When asked where I see my self as in the future, I believe I will be working within interior design and architecture, pursuing new skills while developing personal goals within my work. I hope to work with companies which hold similar values in design such as sustainability, wellbeing in innovative design and creating spaces which have a lasting impact.
